It’s Independence Day!

I’ve gotta admit I’m a total sucker for July 4th. It’s summer, it’s time for cookouts and beaches and FIREWORKS!

In my excitement about the big day, I was looking for more information on how we came to     celebrate July 4th the way that we do, and I found some great stuff!

Did you know … that Thomas Jefferson was only 33 when he wrote the Declaration of Independence? That both Thomas Jefferson & John Adams–the only two signers of the Declaration who went on to be President–both died on July 4, 1826? That 155 million hot dogs will be eaten in the U.S. on July 4th alone? Or that the Liberty Bell, so it won’t crack, hasn’t been rung since 1846 (each year, it’s tapped 13 times in honor of the original colonies)?

Whether you spend the day with friends, family, watching fireworks, or all three, let’s not forget what a special day this is for our country and what it means for all of us: We are Independent. We are united. We are FREE.

Happy 4th of July!
